dc.description.abstract	This thesis describes the design and development of an infrared monitoring and data logging system. The infra-red unit will be used to monitor certain hiking trails on Table Mountain, whilst the logging unit will be used to log the date and time of the monitored person into memory. This logged data can then be used to compute the statistics relating to that specific hiking trail.	-
